Well, Pirates on the Pungo turned out to be a pretty fun race. The wind was light on Saturday for two races, but picked up on Sunday for three more. It is just off the Pamilico Sound in Belhaven, NC. Camping was free, registration goes to support the local hospital (in a small community), there were multiple launch areas, and the mono's were very welcoming of the fleet of cats, all two of us. We ended up sailng with the spin mono's. There needs to be a fleet of cats there.
Looking on the schedule for events in July turned up little on the EMSA site. This has the potential to be a good cat regatta in July. The keel boats and dinghy's really seemed to enjoy us trapped-out, single-handed, and flying hulls on our H16's while we waited for races to start today. (Not to say they didn't enjoy watching us race eachother, but we were able to get in a little "show off" time also, which is always fun) They asked us to bring more cats at the awards ceremony.
My personal highlight was watching the performance of the
B-25. In the lighter stuff they were beating us around the course with no problem. They held their own agianst the mono's in the heavier stuff too.
Keep an eye on this race next year.
