Greetings:
I first want to thank Tornado and F-18 guy for the two excellent posts they had over on Sailing Anarchy (multi-hull anarchy) and here. After reading both of these reports this past Monday, I had the feeling I was still being water boarded on our rocket ride from the east end of Anacapa Island back to the Ventura Harbor. Outside of doing some afternoon cruises with Team Chums Lee when he lived in Ventura on his boat; this was my first race on a Inter 20. I will say after that ride, going back to my Prindle 18-2 for island racing is going to be a tough proposition. Glad to hear NACRA is coming out with a new 20 footer, maybe they’re be some cheap Inter 20 for sale.
Question, did any of you send this to Damon at the TheBeachcats.com to post on the home page?
Moving along:
Coming up next month; August 22nd to be exact we have the Tri-Point Anacapa Race. This is a “FULL ON” 33 mile beachcat ocean race with a majority of the race being screaming beam reaches to and from the island and a quick upwind run behind Anacapa. This is not as technical as the Milt Ingram Race and will provide a great opportunity for those wanting to “cut their teeth” sailing around Anacapa. As for the weather this time of year we can always expect those excellent sailing chamber of commerce days with and average 10 kt wind, bright sun, and loads of wild life both on and off shore. More information can be found at
http://www.pbyc.org/RACING/09IS_NOR%20Tri-point.pdf & the Beach Cat Addendum
http://www.pbyc.org/RACING/09IS_NOR%20BeachCat.pdfThis race will START at the MANDELEY BOUY which if off the coast of Ventura abeam to the MANDELEY POWER STATION. PBYC usually starts the beachcats last and you can anticipate a 11:30 AM start. We have never had a problem with Beachcats making it to the start line on time in the past; however, should you find yourself needing a tow hail any of the boats heading out as they have always been willing to tow a beachcats in the past. From there the race will go to PLATFORM GINA, to the EAST END OF ANACAPA, up the back side of ANACAPA rounding the WEST END OF ANACAPA back to the VENTURA HARBOR. If you would like the *.GPX file with all the waypoint pre-loaded contact me off list and I will send them to you.
Also, I have asked the race committee if they would consider giving the F-18 a separate start; however, score them with the beachcats overall should five of these little rockets show up. Maybe some of the Long Beach sailors would like a tune up for the nationals coming up in September if you don’t make it to the Wine and Roses. I should have an answer on next week.
Hope to see a few new faces for this race.
Adios “awl ya awl”
