Posts: 1,304 Gulf Coast relocated from Cali... | Maybe some sailors need to spend a little less time on their boats, and a little more time in the bedroom, And that has anything to do with wich boat to chose? Back to the subject. If you have good sailing skills and more than a little experience on a catamaran, the Inter 20 is actually a great family boat. Nobody has pointed out here that is has a HUGE trampoline with a self tacking jib. Pretty easy to move around on and not to mention the boat is VERY forgiving. I went from the H21se to the Inter 20 and was amazed at how well the boat behaved when I screwed up. I said it was like sailing with training wheels. It will pich pole but you really have to be past the edge of stupidity to do it (yes I have done it but it could have been avoided if I had backed off a little). Rudder mechanisms are simple if they are maintained. Outboard control lines...ect, I mean the boat has simplicity engineered right into it. Just cause it's fast, doesn't make in not a family boat.

Bedroom activity on the boat? Definately the N20 since the trampoline is free from the jib sheet crap that can dig into your guests back when you don't want it to. I can even give you advice on which beachweels lend themselves to fun activity with your signifigant other as well. And if you have the opportunity to get past "R" rated with more than one female at a time, the H21se is the winner hands down. Now, would anyone like any advice as to wich harness to use? I have a story for that too.

Posts: 29 Texas | I am debating the switch to I20 or Tornado from my N 6.0 NA. Since my N 6.0 NA is in pretty good shape for my working back up (I have been out Multihulls for 10 years essentially and the boat has been dry stored for that time) I am holding off until after I (hopefully) get a ride in the I20 Nats. All these ideas bouncing about at once. One of my thoughts is staying with the current boat and adding the chute and square top main etc. I would like to find some photos of the layouts of N 6.0 NA (Express?) set up like this and also be put in touch with any N 6.0 nuts in the Houston or Austin area. Is Smyth still making these square top sails and will they go on the double diamond mast? I am interested in trying a used sail before buying.

Posts: 1,304 Gulf Coast relocated from Cali... | I've heard more and more bad stories about Smyth lately. A close friend of mine who is a really close friend of Randy is even questioning the ride Randy is taking them on. Not good when someone even does it to a so called friend. I dont want to go into details. I do know that Thor Jones just got a new square top for his 6.0 NA (double diamonds) from Elliot Pattison and it is top notch. E/P has done quite a few custom sq tops for 6.0s and 5.8s and one 5.5 that I have seen first hand. I would go with E/P.

Given what you've said about sailing ability and the fact that your kids are teen-aged and you're looking to grow into, I'd say either is a viable choice.
Spin sailing a cat is addictive, so it's easy to give the nod to the N-20. But the 6.0 is still fast, simple, fairly bullet proof and you could always add the chute later. The 6.0 also sails pretty well without the jib, and some use a 5.8 jib to take some of the power out, so there's some easy options for toning it down a bit.
A biggee to consider IMO is your venue - will you store the boat rigged and ready to go, or will you trailer and rig each time? If the boat stays rigged go N-20, if you rig each time you'll get on the water much faster rigging the 6.0. Since you're rec sailing you'll probably be doing more blast reaching instead of windward/leeward, and again the 6.0 ain't bad there.
Don't make your first day in either boat one with wind over 10-12. Scale things appropriately for the kids, then go nuts. Your biggest problem may end being how to wipe the smiles off your faces...
