Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Yes they could, pretty good couple of threads re. wings at SA in the Multihulls, with input from the C class guys who actually sound like they really know what they're talking about, including using wing with spin. They don't when class racing because of sail area restrictions btw... I wouldn't say "spinnaker" ... more like a big code 0 or screacher. These boats will never have the apparent wind anywhere near 90 degrees. Chances are you'll probably see a smaller jib/headsail when going upwind and the big screacher unwind for the downhill stuff.

Posts: 3,906 Clermont, FL, USA | To put things in perspective, LE said in an interview the other day that he was losing a $100m a month on Sun. Not to worry, the plan to ship the Tech Jobs to countries where they pay in coconuts is going better than expected, it's all good. Besides Oracle bought Sun for the software and couldn't give a S!@# about the hardware. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if he sold the hardware part of Sun to HP for a song, he don't like IBM. This is DEC the sequel.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | What do you think of the latest DZ hull modifications? Is it me or did they really butcher it up? They even took the center rudder off, they might as well lose the main hull alltogether and turn it into a proper boat!
How big does that wing need to be to replace the current rig? A wing 60% the size of a typical fabric sail rig will apparently generate 10 to 20% more lift...according to some "experts" on Sailing Anarchy. I'm not sure that those numbers aren't a little generous to the wing.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | OK - turns out that a significant portion of the 9 sections that were identified at the DoG pound were actually tent parts to extend the construction tent...which they did today. So still, we've only identified two...~maybe~ three...sections that could form a wing...maybe.
