The Comptip arrived yesterday and will be installed next week. But it poses more questions.

1. The halyard is a big piece of line (5/16)?. I've always used a lighter line, less weight & resistance.

Should I cut the new line and replace it?

2. Hobie's quality control is marginal at best. The new section has a line of casting flash up the front that will create minor turbulance.

Should I smooth it?

I think a lighter line would be good (that's on my wish list too)
About the flash on the front, I'm thinking more about the joint down the side. Mine had a big bump, thinking about "fairing" it with packaging tape. Wonder if that's legal?

I used 3/16" Samson XLS on my Nacra 5.2 main halyard. The main halyard setup on a Hobie 16 is almost exactly the same.
