Hi Garry,
good to see the Grumpy old men are sticking together, but I am guessing the 2nd Nikitin is a young blonde haired lass , I hope you old grumps behave yourselves . Mind you some of you could do with the distraction, your getting way to fast . By the way how is the new Irwin main going?

Hi Gary I am hoping the blonde distracts the old grump from Loch Sport anyway, if not i might have to distract him with pure blonde. Us unfortunates up here dont have any water to sail each week so will try the Irwin out next weekend at Cullulleraine at an interclub regatta.

The Irwin shouldn't wear out in a hurry then!!
Seriously though, I look forward to having a good look at the new sail this weekend, Garry. Hmmm........I wonder how I can see if it fits my mast......

Trevor Armstrong Robert Lott Mitchell Meade Nic Maan Matt Stone Simon Clavin Peter Nikitin Garry Johnstone Gary Maskiell Mick Floyd Will Alexander Shannon Wilson Peter Foulsom Andrew Neeson Tim Shepperd Neil Joiner Peter Lyons Nicholas Baglioni Philip Warren-Smith Matt Kirby Gordon Hyde Bill Pepping
We had an awesome weekend. While Melbourne was being trashed by the 10 year storm event, Chelsea YC ran a series of seven pretty much perfect races for us.
Shannon Wilson and Neil & David Joiner are now the Mk1 and Mk2 state champions until next year.
To Tim and all the Mosquito association, thankyou for making one of the new people at the States feel very welcome.
Some highlights :
Finding out I got the encouragement award. Meeting new people and getting heaps of help from all the Mossie people (not all classes are this way and it certainly is a credit to all). Finding out I am not as far back as I thought I would be, Saturday's race 1 and 2 was pretty close at the back of the field. Dinner on Saturday with Matt and Simon, I have not laughed as much for a long time. Thanks guys.
Some lowlights:
Trick for newbies - dont use aluminium rivets on your mast Getting the mast stuck in the bottom when capsized.....not a good look !!
I will be replacing all the rivets in the mast this week and back up and sailing this weekend. I cant wait for the next opportunity to sail with other Mossie's and go to the next State titles.
Finally, Emma took a whole lot of good pictures of people and their boasts. I will pass them on to all once I have downloaded them off the camera.
Thanks again.

Agreed awesome week end. highlights: My first regatta without some one else dinking my boat up (thanks Gary & Tim)and continuing to defy the laws of physics as far as nosediving is concerned.. with witnesses!
Lowlights: well its all good. cheers

The plan was simple.... Like my brother in law Phil, except this plan just might work!
That's right. There's yellow stuff called Duralac. You might have to go to an industrial (bearings) type shop to find it.
You can also use Monel rivets to keep the corrosion down. They're almost as strong as stainless - and 3 of them in each tang will be plenty strong enough.
I got Duralac from Whitworths in Southport for about $35 and a tube should last a "lifetime" according to salesman- they have stores all over Aus. Only one in Melb. Elizabeth st,city I think.

Nick, don't use it too sparingly. Make sure all the joined surfaces are thoroughly covered with it. It's easy to clean off any mess an over enthusiastic application makes, much easier than dealing with corrosion.
Are you still intending to race McCrae tomorrow? Forecast looks a little light. If you can't make it I might try to get to Rye Sunday week as I have your encouragement award goodies for you.
Cheers,

you can get duralac off me we sell it, price is about $33 and for you guys will last a life time, at work we go through it 1 a month, any ronstan, harken, wichard, anything at all to do with boats eg rigging, masts and components, message me and ill bring them along, As another note, it tramps need repair, or new boat cover, fibreglass work, stainless and alloy work come to me as we have Ryan sails - sail maker, stainless and alloy mast bits and pieces - Riggers (me) Jason penisula marine covers - upholstery we have boat detailing, engine mechanics
Thanks guys, got the Duralac already but the advice is always welcome. Much appreciated.
Simon, wont be sailing tomorrow, working on the mast, sorry I didn't get time during the week. Will be down sailing with the kids on Sunday. Sunday week is definitely a goer though if you would like.
