I have a 2002 Inter/Nacra 20 which I have modified and added a self tacker. I still have the end pole spinnaker setup. Recently I purchased a Speed Puck and am having problems finding a spot on the pole to mount it. I can't mount on the pole in front of the bridle or my spin sheet gets hung up on the mounting bracket. I can't mount it behind the bridle because my jib self tacker line will interfere with it. Any solutions out there?

Thanks,

Ken

Move the self tacker blocks rearward on the pole and mount the speed puck on top of the pole under the foot of the jib. That's the safest place for it. You can also mount it UNDER the spin pole at the bridle - it's quite visible there too (however, this is not advisable for the TacTic products since this obscures the charging solar cell...don't ask me how I know).

It can survive on top of the pole in front of the bridle if you run some small lines springloaded with bunji (or just run small diameter bunji) out to the bridle tangs on the hulls and one back over the top of the unit to the forestay. This will keep the spin sheet /lines from wrapping the unit but is still a bit of a risky proposition - I've have raced a Tybee or two with the compass on top of the pole in front of the jib until we bought a new pole and I rigged it to mount the compass rearward of the bridle.

Put it in front of the bridle, then run a small line (bungie) from the base of the forestay (where the tack of the jib is), over the top of the speedpuck, down to the pole in front of the mount. Creates a "shield" that keeps any lines from falling into those spaces. You might need to add a small metal eye to the back of the mount to keep it in place.

The other solution I have seen is put it on the pole inside the bridle, even if the jib sheet is in the way and make a spot in the mount for the jib sheet to run through. I'm not a fan, too much chafe. I've also seen people "hang" the puck under the pole from either position, and just velcro on the puck so that it is right side up.

Get a second one, mount them on either sides of the boom with the lashing plates...

Also, look at the last post (as of now) in the multihull forum over at SA, post by TornadoCan99, he gives some pics and details on how to make a swivel mount. I'm planning on building one this winter as I want to be able to press buttons on the new Velocitek ;-)

Or, just check my original post on this forum last year:

Enjoy!

Expensive, yes, but in the end there's less to fuss with and nothing gets in the way. It works for me because I use the same units on my F-27, stuck to each side of the cabin so I can see/access them from the floats.

But, I have changed my N-20 mast base to the new one that locates the rotator arm to the base. That would make one of the tacking systems shown viable, so I may consider that. It still looks like something else in that area of the boat to get in the way.
