Posts: 4,119 Northfield Mn | Throwing boats on the trailer earlier today and stumbled across something. I was kneeling on the tramp while cranking down the straps and noticed the tramp got noticeably less tight, so I tightened it while it was strapped down, popped the straps loose, and holy hell is it tight now.
I'm boatless.

Are you referring to the boat flexing when you were strapping it down, and the tramp looseing slightly? Were you putting the starps accross the beams, hulls, each seperate?
Tell us how we too can 'tighten out tramps', I think she'd like that!

Posts: 4,119 Northfield Mn | Beam bolts are all tight, I check them on a fairly regular basis.
Apparently the straps are pretty damn tight, and my tramp wasn't loose before, but its definitely tighter now.
Makes me wonder about wrapping a strap around the beams and pulling it in as a method. It would also be interesting to measure how deflection is in the beams with and without tension.
I'm boatless.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | I'm attempting to visualize what's going on there.
By ratcheting down on the straps, you're squeezing the boat together (against the force of the beams)? Are the beams bowing up or down slightly while strapping? Perhaps the rear beam moreso since you've got a striker on the main beam...?

Posts: 4,119 Northfield Mn | The straps go front to back over the top of both beams. So its flexing the beams down, and toward the center of the boat. I think my straps are 44" apart, but is have to measure it again.
I kinda wish I would've thrown a straight edge on either of the beams. I haven't seated these beams, but you can see the gaps in the seats that they are being pulled in.
