Hi all,
I'm intending to build a new boom. Can anyone give me some advice on where to purchase the "boom section", what is best practice (which section) and what the price might be. I have all the other bits so just need the "boom section"
thanks

Give Goodalls at Bendigo a ring. 54436910 I think is the number. They answer all those questions and send it to you.

i can get boom section for u, its about $150 for a 3 meter leanth
Also think about how is your boom attached to the mast because you may need a boom end plug which is about $35

A common section is from a (broken) paper tiger mast section. Even better when the sail track flanges are removed. Might even be anodised! Are you sheeting to mid-boom? Consider the extra flex this will cause. How will you control the clew adjustment? Some excellent latest ideas with images on the web.

Tortured ply is clearly beautiful.

I think that I might have enough of a blank section that is a few years old, is new and never used. Wouldn`t want much for it. Is the length required exactly 3m?

Before you start drilling holes and putting on hangers, I found if you make a loop of kevlar rope inside some fuel hose, and have that around the mast like the A class, you can adjust its position by clamping it in the end of outhaul car slot. Means no corrosion, or pull outs, and less stress on the boom.

I also used 3 x layers of chopping board bolted together for my boom plug, and hollowed an inside cavity and put a key (a piece of rivet nail) athwart the gooseneck rod. The boom will only come off if I turn it 90 degrees so won't shake loose going downwind when tension is off everything.
