Posts: 109 Fl | http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/7939#_docsResults are up. The "story" Wind at the beginning of the race was great. All boats got off to very good start and made great progress. Several rain storms passed through picking the wind up to about 15. Down side was wind was on the nose for the entire race. This favored the boats that like to point and the race was won by an A-Cat sailed by Chris Cordes. The RC 30 came in next. The fleet had a bit of bad luck in the afternoon. About 3:30 the rain passed on and left behind zero wind. Most boats had made the Mid Course finish line though, so all classes had trophies. In hind sight, I regret wishing that the rain would go away, as the wind did too. At the end of the day I was wishing for the rain to come back. | | | Re: Mug Race Results

You cannot paddle, well you can you're just not racing anymore. The river flows north and we sail north and is tidal as you approach Jacksonville. The current can also be wind driven so you have to keep an eye on it. The current flowed south almost the entire time we were on the course. When the wind died fortunatly the current did too. If you weren't close to finish when the wind died you were done, the breeze never came back.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | hey, he gets serious props for even showing up as often as he does.
I think only once did he miss the cutoff time at the bridge.
The rest of us.... well... (but I do have one nicely painted mug)
It is on my calendar for 2015
** As is Buzzelli (pending crew) so if I still owe any of you m-fers some Captain/Cruzan now's your chance...

Posts: 3,906 Clermont, FL, USA | Really Ding, loosing to a Nacra 6.0?? What has this world come to... I'm not happy about it either Sam and yes you're not the first to point that out. My crew/brother has already given me the w-t-f lecture. Really nice guy on the 6.0 and props to him they sailed well. It was a tricky day even by Mug Race standards.

As long as your expectations are low, I feel confident in failing to meet them.
I bought this thing because I kept spilling my drinks on the N20

Saw you had them beat at the half way point...that counts for something? Reality is the N20 and even the 6.0 are faster downwind in under 5kts of breeze...I'm contemplating a custom deep runner spinnaker for those conditions to help narrow the gap.

Posts: 932 Solomon's Island, MD | Hmmm...completely buy the flatter kite is a monster in big air. Care to explain the light air performance?? I just know the the "stock" N20 kite is much more powerful in under 5 kts of breeze...I mean the whole boat is more powerful in under 5 kts, but just looking at kites, the deeper kite lets you drive down deeper and keep you in the puffs longer. Maybe it's the trimmer...I just can't stand to bring my helm up any in those conditions, the angles just get too bad on the F18 (and F16).
I do agree the stock kite/main/jib are faster in typical W/L course racing than the 20...the whole rig package is just a world away from the 20...much prefer the Infusion in over 15kts of breeze too.

Might have to coordinate with you for a test sail or two.

Posts: 932 Solomon's Island, MD | The flow stays attached to the flat kite in light air (under 5 knots). I can sail hot, build apparent, and carve down while maintaining boat speed. Makes sense, and I know you do a lot of lake sailing...trouble is our weeknight sailing venue is in a relatively narrow channel...the bands of pressure are small, head up at all and you're out of them...staying deep is the name of the game until you really get some breeze.
