BERNY the carbon fibre "A" class mast section from Applied Composite Technologies in Melbourne is 60mm by 145mm. I have just made and taken pattens to the foundry for a mast head and a mast base to suit that section.

The 'GF' rule sounds good, takes the pressure off providing for individual classes in a mixed 14ft fleet.
Mate having sailed a 14 in lots of mixed fleet open regattas, the reason I think a separate course for the 14's is necessary is because;
a. It gives credence to the class,
b. prevents the bigger boats from spoiling the 14ft race by continually passing them to windward and yelling abuse,
c. allows for a shorter 14ft course without the hassle of converging, (everyone's going to the same mark)
d. Gets the 14ft boats back to the beach between races around the same time as the bigger boats when there is still some hot foot left and still somewhere to park on the beach.

Having said that it also removes them from the general competition area and they loose exposure so there's good and bad I guess.
Anyway it's a ways of yet although next season will be on us sooner than we think and there's no time like the present.

That 60x145 mast seems a tad big. I erred when I said my mast was 120x60 I should have said 120x50 a really nice wing section for a 14. What's the weight of the carbon mast?

Berny go to Applied Composite Technologies web site at www.composites.com.au and they have a great tool that shows you all their carbon sections. Lets just say that it is a lot lighter than the equivalent section in aluminum, and big!! the bigger the better, provided their aerodydamics are good
