Mary is mentioned in this month’s, April 2004, Sailing World. Also, Bob Merrick has an article about Beach Cat racing. (Haven't read it yet though; train ride was to short this morning)

Congratulations to both of you!

Perhaps SW is beginning to listen to its customers!

Hmmm, maybe it’s a matter of writing something up and submitting it to them. If that’s the case then I can’t blame somebody else. . . . . . rats, that must not be the case.

I’ve had an opportunity or two to give Spin Sheet a write-up and have, regrettable, not followed through both times.

I haven't gotten my copy yet, but John Burnham told me they were doing a big article about beach cats and his editorial column was going to be about it, too. I just gave him some background information and disagreed with some of his opinions about the reasons for the decline of beach cats. So I have been looking forward to this issue.

P.S. You are right that sending articles and pictures to them is the best way to get something published. Same thing goes for Catamaran Sailor. So send stuff to me, too.

Sailing World has also been in contact with the Outer Banks Catamaran Club and the Tybee Island Sailing Association for a May article on the Atlantic 1000 (Tybee 500 + Outer Banks 500) and plan a follow up article after the race. Good to see some beachcat coverage!!

Gonna have to go stop by the Barnes and Noble on the way home from work and pickup a copy!

Thanks for the heads up and congrats Mary!

I didn't do nuthin'. Sailing World did this all on their own. They are the ones to congrat and thank; not me. If you like the beach-cat coverage, write thank-you letters to the editor of Sailing World. That's a great way to help get more of the same.

P.S. Whoops! Guess I should make it easy for you.

Are you allowed to tell us those opinions, I don't think I can get Sailing World easily over here.

All the best

Gareth

I haven't seen the magazine yet, so I don't know what he wrote. I was referring to informal discussions we had beforehand. Maybe he wrote something entirely different.

Got my copy today. Great article and kudos to Bob for taking the time and energy to write the article. He wrote it from his perspective of coming out of the dingy racing scene, where he was very successful, into the catamaran racing world. He discusses his draw to catamarans, and describes three international classes (H16, A class, and F18) with general descriptions and used/new boat prices for each. In general, it is a well written and good general description of catamaran racing that will hopefully recruit the interests of many mono-slug sailors.

Mary:

I saw the article and you should be very proud of your accomplishments. I've been a subscriber to both magazines for a long time, and it's nice to see Sailing World recognize that there are plenty of beach cat owners out there who pay attention to what's going on. Sailing World is the only other sailing magazine I subscribe to because they do cover cat events.

We wouldn't have any voice at all without people like you.

Wyatt
