..... lordy.

How about playing soccer using your hands? That would change things as well. There is a reason that light air sailing tactics is a lost art.

Hi, they were Canadians sailing in Australia training for the Olypics, for the record. Makes for good reading, if I find the story online I'll post a link.
Speaking of Canada, a paddle is a legal requirement. I have one of those cheapy plastic ones that screw together broken down and kept in the hull. I have used it when becalmed.
Of course, in Canada, boats over 18 feet need a whole lot of safety equipment (eg fire extinguisher) so if you're talking to Canadian law enforcement anytime, the Tornado is really 18 feet long OK? (same goes for my insurance company)

KH, Tad et al:

Ok, I'm old and fat now and I have too much gear I have an expensive catamaran and all kinds of spare parts to boot... but come on, our team name is "Soul Surfer"... Tad's been to my house on Tybee... got 5 boards in the quiver not including my 8'6" Rhino Chaser from Surfline Hawaii circa 1976. Got that after my BK shaped 7'4" Lightning Bolt got swiped. Learned to surf in Hawaii in 1972 from Hans Jensen who was a pretty famous local in the 60's and early 70's surf scene in Hawaii. I actually got to surf with Bertelman, Michael Ho, Reno, Rabbit, and others... It was Hans though that got me away from Lido 14's and into the Hobie 14 which we sailed with total reckless abandon actually surfing the Hobie at Pop's and even Ala Moana on small days quite frequently.

I think you'll find a lot of the W1000 (now Tybee 500) guys are surfers...some pretty active like Jaime Livingston and myself as well as the Brevard Challenge guys who are also hardcore from what I know. Rod Waterhouse surfs also.

Have you seen the new "Step into Liquid" DVD. Highly recommend to all...surfer and non-surfer... catsailors, anyone who loves the ocean.

Stay wet!
