Thw wind was light, but I got to sail two days. I sailed one with the reacher and one with the jib. Amazing!! the balance differences when compared with the old sails.

I'll start club racing this in two weeks and will look forward to the developing schedule.

Cool!! It's about time someone put another one together!

If anyone is looking for one that is already set-up, I would sell one of mine. Email me for details!

I see that you went with Ullman Sails, what is your opinion of the sails and the service? What did it cost you?

I got quotes (most direct, but some from website listings) from Ullman, Sabre, Catsailor, Calvert, & Sailrite. Pretty much all the quotes on the various cloths & sails were closely within the ballpark of each other from each of the lofts. $45 dollars covered the final analyzed spread.

I decided on Ullman based on my telephone contact with them. They were knowledgable and friendly to talk to. I later got a very good word on them and their quality from a guy I race Lightnings against, who bought a set of F28 sails from them.

I was very pleased with their service...Jay Glaser was very patient with all my questions...all the while they were prepping to move thier loft. Quality wise...they look well made and while only having sailed them twice, they were a instant joy.

Looks great and I bet it goes well too. Good job.
Will you sail it cat rigged in heavier wind conditions?
Best of luck with your racing.

Thanks. As to racing it.....I need more time on the boat to know what to carry and what to fly and when! Based on the Jib and Main sailing I did on Monday, the boat has more power than with the old sails....no surprise there, but it also seemed more stable in the gusts...speeding up instead of popping a hull. The reacher has a lot of area and fair amount of lift....I suspect I will have a few spectacular pitchpoles before figuring out the balance, trim and conditions envelope on it.

I think that once you get it balanced you will see many blokes out there wanting the same set up and bring thier old Hobie 14's into the new century.

I am thinking of doing something similar with my Maricat 4.3, but just need the cash to do so.
