I just bought a 99 Wave Classic and I had a few questions on winter storage. I plan to disasemble the boat and store it in the crawl space under my condo (don't worry its actually elevated and very dry)

  • Should I remove the battens from the sail?
Should I store the sail in a sail bag?
Should I full disassembly the trampoline or is it ok to leave it on the crossbars?

Your help is greatly appreciated

BTW- Love the site!!!

Loosen the battens and store the sail in a bag
Be sure the tramp is not exposed to the sun and weather.
The hull should also be out of the sun, even though they are really indestructable.
Good luck,
Rick

Thanks for the reply Rick. Do you sell sail bags on your site I can't seem to find them. If not any suggestions where to buy one?

Also the tramp on the boat is generally in good condition but is fraying a bit around the notches along the sides. Is there any way to mend this? Its really cosmetic at this point so replacing the tramp would be overkill.

Guess we don't have sail bags.., strange. We have sails that come with bags, but no bags.

Best bet would be to go to a local canvas shop, give them the length and how much diameter and they should be able to knock something out pretty quick and easy.., and fairly cheap. Sailmakers hate to make bags for the sails they make and really detest making a bag for someone else's sail.

My tramp gave no signs of wear, but this year at Bay Week on the first day both sides ripped out. I had to jump from hull to hull to tack or jibe.
That cost me big time -- sprained my back and was out for a month

Good luck,
Rick

Re your sail....

If you are going to have the sail stored for a long time I would take the battens out and tape them to a long (as required) bit of smooth flat wood (something like 2"x2") so that all battens are stored fklat - should prevent warping / bending.
