Hi Philip,
I would try to find a Dart 18. they are simple to rig, light (280lbs) and can accomodate 2 people if you wish. Also very easy to put the mast up by yourself.

I’m touched by all of the excellent advice that you all have given me. I just picked up the book Catamaran Sailing from start to finish and will definitely pick up Rick Whites and Mary Wells book catamaran sailing for the 90's. I had no idea what a complex decision buying a used cat would be and you all have helped to make the right decision easier.

Before buying a (second hand) boat look into the ultimate catamaran guide, it is free of charge and especially for second hand boats gives you a good list of what to look for before buying a particular boat

Reply to \: "I'm leaning towards a Nacra 5.5 uni. Does any one have experience righting them, wondering if it’s hard to do?"

I sailed a 5.5 U for a summer and loved the boat, although it is not easy to right. Just using a line over the hull, I was able to get it up once out of 3 times. Not good.
It was then I got a waterbag system. It worked but was clumsy.
Now we have the Rick White Power Righter (by the way, I came up with this because of trouble righting boats.., and I am a big guy at 6'2" and usually over 200)

Taipan is definitely easier due to the very light mast.

Wouter, you said, "-1- Rick Whites book catamaran sailing for the 90's. (Some things are different on modern rigs but it undoubtable a very good starting point and basic framework to hang additional experience on)"

Are you saying that rigging in that book is outdated?
Incredible! And yet in the F16 Forum you suggest reading tips for sailing the Taipans (which I read thoroughly) and found that most of the techniques and rigging were taken almost verbatim from portions of my book.

Nothing major has changed since writing that book, hence no new book. Although we do need to write another book since more and better headsails are being operated.., as well as some other minor situations and some other winning tips that I have learned since writing the last book and from putting on Seminars every year. Amazing how much I am able to learn from watching a video -- that is how the Catamaran roll tack began. By the way, another technique quoted almost verbatim in your recommended reading.

Starting to take a little offense in your ramblings.
Rick

I have decided to buy a totally renovated Supercat 17.
And I wanted to thank you again for all the advice.
