I must apologize if I am not computer literate enough to figure this out....however, on the class website there are rotating graphics and pictures, one of which is apparently the class logo.

Is the logo somewhere else on the web site, sitting still, so I can capture it and reproduce it for use on our boat? Or is there some permit process to go through to gain access to use of the logo?

Advertising pays, so it would be nice if all the boats that want to race as F16's could display the logo. A good time to start this would be the upcoming F16 regatta at Gulfport Yacht Club in Florida.

Can I, or Jennifer, get a high-resolution copy of the logo so it can be made into decals for either boats or sails?

hahahahha thats funny, let me guess a "V" or peace sign?

Hey Mary I too would be interested in the logo. I will start a decal business soon, but I wont be up and running by Gulfport.
This the best I can do.

Mary,

What format do you want ?

How big ?

I can give it too you in Word format (scalable vector based drawing)

Or in Gif, or JPG

Even PCT is you want to go to the printers

Phill Brander asked for the same thing a few weeks ago and so I have most format available from hard disk

.jpg format is fine. I don't know what .pct is, but maybe you can throw that in for the benefit of the printer.

I don't know what size. What size decal are people using on the sails, and where are they putting them on the sails?

You are going to e-mail to me, I assume? Thanks.

Mary, you can use the image I posted. Right click the image, hit "save picture as" and save it on your pc.

If you take it to any decal/sign maker they should be able to edit it to any size you want.

Thanks, Robi. I already did all that, but the edges on that one are jagged. Maybe the ones from Wouter will look better.

Ah yes true. I captured that image from the .gif on the site, and blew it up with Adobe Photoshop.

Please keep me posted on those logos, as I will be interested as well.

Hi All,

Maybe you can save re inventing the wheel. You may have noticed F16 logos on Altered and Mossies on Forum posts. Tim Sheppard has already done all this work, we have had them made in a variety of sizes. If you send him a message I am sure he would have it all on his computer.

Just a hint Logo is very difficult to put on sail if made of sticky back sailcloth, paper that holds parts of Logo together doesn't stick to well to sticky back sailcloth and sticky back sticks to well to sail, only need to use sticky back if on Dacron sail . If you are applying to a Mylar sail normal sign writing material is OK. Highly reccomend use of water and detergent to allow slipping Logo into correct position on hull or mylar sail, you then squeegee it out.

Regards Gary.

How do I contact Tim Sheppard? What is his user name on this forum? Is he Tim Mozzie?

In this thread I provide 2 files that can be used to produce the official F16 class logo that can go on to sails, hulls or trailers.

There are three comments I wish to make.

First, for the best quality of the graphic everybody should use the Word97 file and scale the vectordrawing to to required size before printing it or providing it a professional printer for stickers or something. This gives BY FAR the smoothest and sharp end result. Scaling a jpg or gif file will quickly loose the shapr edges and look amateuristic. Of course the last is not a good reflection of the High Performance character of out class.

NOTE : for some reason this forum doesn't allow doc files to be attached so I entered the .txt extension to the real file name. Remove this .txt part before you try to open the file in ms-word. To download the file right-click on attachment and select "save target as". Use MS-word graphic tools to scale the logo to any side or colour you want.

Secondly, I provide a gif file as well that can be used as a quick fix but only in emmergencies. The use of the Word97 vector drawing file it strongly recommended.

Thirdly, Featuring the official F16 class logo's on your boat parts declares your boat to be fully F16 compliant. Only the non-compliant Taipan 4.9 + spi, Stealth R and Mosquito F16's may run with the F16 class logo's in addition to full compliant boats. All logo's are now given out on good faith that each owner maintains his or her boat to F16 compliance (or the dispensation regulations when looking at Stealth F16, Taipan 4.9 spi , Mosquito F16). Eventually a system of measuring will be implemented and any boat not satisfying the conditions set will have to remove the featured F16 logo's immediately.

Naturally good use of the F16 logo in of great importance to the F16 class. And I'm sure all will do nothing but the best in this respect.

Both Mary and Matt will get a private e-mail with these files as well.

Other interested parties can contact me when they want the Word97 logo scaled to the right size but are uncertain how to do it.

Thank you,

Wouter

Here the gif file, but please note it is much prefered to use the MS-Word vectordrawing file for maximum smoothness and sharpness of the graphic

Is it my imagination, or are the curved graphic elements in this file made up of piecewise straight lines? That's certainly how it apppears on my monitor.

I'm pretty sure I've used graphics tools in the past that allow arbitrary shapes to be defined using spline curves. I presume they would export to vector graphics formats such as EPS or SVG.

But it's been a while. Anyone with expertise here? Wouter would you be willing to have someone tweak this?

Mark.

I think you are right Mark. I see it the same way as well.

Just needs more points and it will be set.

Yep, you are right. Even Word allows the smoothing of curves, but I found that the feel of proportionally is very sensitive to changes. I haven't spend the time on it to get the curves smoothes. Just adding more points was not as effective as it may seem. I deleted many of them as the shapes became very hard to control.

I simply didn't have the time to spend a weekend on getting it just right with the smoothing. More pressing class issues took precedence. (or presidence ?)

Anyway, I'm more than happy to have anybody do what he or she thinks that must be done and has his or her name on it.

I need to "off load" several task to other volunteers in the future as my duties are expanding and I simply do not have the time for everything.

I still need to get to write a structure on the new website but the EU Blade introduction took all off my time. Sorry about that will give producing this document a second try this week.

Anybody want to smooth the logo is welcome to try and a succes is even more welcomed. I just have one request. Do it with the tools in MS-Word preferable a not too new a version. We need this to keep the logo accesible to the largest group of members. Specialized software or very new Word versions will very much prevent the ease of use and lead to bad scaling techniques; like blowing up a JPG picture thus showing ragged edges.

Wouter go ahead and email me the vector file. I will try my hardest to get it smoothed out.

Actually, I was thinking the opposite, since I don't have MS Word on my home computer at all (without remorse btw). I had to use my work computer to see the image (ok that happened to be all of 3ft away at the time, so it wasn't such a big deal). Personally I would prefer it if the class didn't force people to use expensive proprietary software.

In general I'm thinking that an open format that can be rendered by both proprietary and open tools might be best. Ultimately SVG will probably be the format of choice, but EPS with an embedded TIFF preview image would probably also do the job - for those who do use Word, the screen image would be displayed using the TIFF image but the EPS will enable it to print perfectly at any scale on any Postscript compatible printer.

Let me see what I can come up with.

Mark.

Has anyone gotten any further with the class logo?
I am also wondering if Mr. Robi has copies of his Blade graphic.
How about an electronic version of the B as it appears on the sails?
