I want to remove sail numbers and replace with my own letters and numbers. Someone suggested using mineral spirits. Will that harm the dacron?

Also does anyone make custom letters, logos and numbers for sails? What material should they be made out of? Would anything other than adhesive backed Dacron be OK?

Thanks

Mineral Spirits should work just fine, but test on an inconspicuous spot (like the head of the sail) before using a lot. Make sure to wash the area well with soap and water when you're done.

I've used rum to clean spots off sails before (don't ask) and it worked OK.

I have peeled off the numbers and then used Goof Off (available at Walmart either in the paint section or the laundry section) to get off the sticky residue. It also helps to have the area you are working on, on something very flat like a counter top or piece of glass. When you apply the Goof Off, use a credit card to scrape the residue off. After you think it is off, use the Goof Off again with a soft cloth/towel until you cannot detect "sticky"
