So how come they have all the fun out there on the Left Coast (San Francisco)? This has been a great spring for foiling in N. Central Florida. But why not a speed meet here in the spring?
For this year's Hogsbreath- a Rave would have been there in an hour.

You're right, this year's Hog's Breath would have been perfect for the Raves. But the race committee would not have been able to get there in time to finish you.

When hydrofoils become common, race committees for distance races are going to have to have people at the finish line area the night before and alarm clocks to wake them up in time to get to the beach and take the scores.

What? How many Tri-Foilers were there?

It would have been nice to have had someone to ferry my trailer to the other end of the race course.

It would have been nicer if the previous Tuesday I had not had a needle in my neck shooting corticosteroid goop into my cervical disc #C3-4 with Doc's strictest instructions not to go "bouncing around on that airplane boat of yours". I promised not to bounce too much. My wife wasn't in the room to hear it.

So, there I am at the Banana River this past Saturday morning. My Kestrel wind meter was showing 20-25mph out of the SSE. The problem with a foiler is that at some point you cannot hold it down; it will fly completely into the air, and every skipper's limit is determined by his experience with the boat, his weight, and the weight of his crew. With enough wind, any foiler is going to be too much to handle and they are expensive boats to screw up.

Sorry, I just couldn't chance bouncing too much this past weekend.

I am anxious to see what my rating will be at the Round The Island Race with the mods that I've made to the boat. I will enter but I don't have a clue as to what my PHRF is at this stage. I don't think it will be anything to be concerned about. I'm just looking for a good time after the goop in my neck is marinated fully. It wasn't this past weekend.

Just a quick clarification... The Hobie TriFoiler will not "fly completely into the air" The foils and sensor systems self level the boat at all times... a novice can sail one.

I found an interesting quote in the Rave forum linked above:

"We'll have some pioneers of sailing coming, like the VP of Hobie, Don Ketterman who also designed the peddle kayaks that Hobie manufactures."

They got that a bit mixed up.

It will be Dan Ketterman who will be there in San Francisco. His brother Greg Ketterman is the designer of the TriFoiler and the Hobie Mirage Kayaks... and Greg is the Hobie VP of engineering. I would have responded to their forum, but the require membership. Dan is likely the best TriFoiler pilot though!.. and one heck of a craftsman.

I noticed the Kettermans mixup but didn't alert the dealer.

Membership is free on the Windrider Yacht Club forum. It's not the factory forum; just a few of us owners and kept up by an owner in Ohio.
http://www.windriderforum.com/phpBB2/index.php.

All that's required is a bogus name and a password of your choice. A few of us toss the webmaster ten dollars or so once a year to keep it flying but it's totally voluntary. It only takes $90 p/yr to keep the server up.

I know the Rave forum would welcome any other foiler skippers; monohull, multihull, Rave or not.
