Robi,

Yep, all sailed as one class - good close racing with frequent lead changes as the results show and really good fun. Both configs demonstrated small advantages over the other on particular legs/wind levels but it seemed to even out and come down to strategy and boat handling/lack of mistakes.

Just to underline that statement, going into the last race any one of 3 boats could have won. Two sloops, one uni. In the end though none of the three contenders finished that race - I DNF'd after hitting a submerged log or similar and destroying my port centreboard case. Dave Tugwell DNF'd due to an unwell crew and Gary capsized in the surf and got into a few difficulties when it turned out that his mast wasn't air/watertight.

Thanks Wouter,

Yes, Paul is 19 and really wants his own F16 - now he's using the "but I am a national champion, Dad" ploy

Really the congratulations should go to John Pierce for organising, hosting and running the championship. He was beachmaster, committee boat, OOD, and rescue boat! A fantastically well done job in the circumstances!

Congrats.

Well done to the Pommie F16's. Fantastic to see so many heat winners in a small fleet and the mix of one and two up. Hope the Aussie event early next year has the same result.

Regards Gary.

Thanks to Wayne Richards for submitting a Nationals report to Yachts & Yachting.

Link to report: Yachts and Yachting Clubs & Classes - F16

They're even using the correct F16 logo
