I admire your self-sufficiency and preparedness throughout this disaster.

I wish others had your level of responsibility and good sense.

Thanks. If you know anyone who needs email, hosting or offsite data backup services, send them to www.mojomonster.com. I am not into advertising on forums, but if you want to help me, new paying customers is the best way to do it.

Whoa! I can see there'll be no shortage of kindling at Chad & Sharins house for a long time!

The trees (those that weren't uprooted) will come back with new leaves in a year, but there's enough wood lying around to heat a bunch of homes for a long time in this neck of the woods.

What was the fire next door from?

Holy cow. That DOES look like a bomb went off. I can't even imagine where to start cleaning up but would honestly be tempted to start with a gallon of gasoline and a match. Wow - what a tragedy. Thanks for hanging in there Chad...theres nowhere to go but "up" now.

The fire behind my house started on tuesday. I was told some people were running around the neighborhood before it started. I think someone had the same idea for cleanup, matches and gasonline. The good news is they had to clean our back yard a bit to get the firehoses through.

And a car, cash and a credit card, too?

Chad,
Steve was responding to Maugan, not to you.

I may potentially be in the market for hosting services in the near future. Is mojomonster a part of the same company as the New Orleans data center, or a reseller? How is the forced evacuation of the city going to affect the continued operation? I understand that the supply of generator fuel is what is enabling the system to stay up at the moment, but don't you really need staff in there to assure continued reliable service? Is there a plan to restore external power in the near term? I notice that www.mojomonster.com is currently not responding. What is the issue there?

Mark.

mojomonster.com is a different company than the one that runs the datacenter. We lease cabinet space from them where we place all our servers and manage them remotely. The site was down this morning because one of the servers stopped responding. I powercycled the machine from Texas and it is back up now.

There have been people at the data center through this entire ordeal. They have been monitoring systems and making sure things stayed up. They were most likely sitting in airconditiong with basic power while the rest of the city was out. The data center is also a central hub for many communication points coming in and out of the city. For this reason I believe they were provided with fuel while evacuations were taking place. You gotta keep comminucations running while something like this is happeneing.

St. Louis, MO,
Is this the Datacenter where you are at?

http://mgno.com/

I think it's called Directnic?

I read through the blog for a bit. That's some hard core individuals to stick it out sleeping on HP boxes. If you want a good read on what it was really like downtown take a look through that blog. I've been following it and it's some fun reading.

Sarcastic or not, When I was a volunteer firefighter we got training cleaning up some old ranch homes this way, and its certainly effective.

Directnic is located in the same datacenter. I am not sure exactly sure who the parent company is, but Directnic is associated with another company www.zipa.com who we lease space from.

They are nice guys who have thier stuff together. If you go to www.zipa.com, they have a virtual tour of the datacenter. You can see the facility and how it is setup. It is definately a start of the art facility.
