Hello All,

As I write this, the surf is up and the thunder is rolling.

To be Hurricane Rita, passed us last Thursday as a day of rain, I see it has reformed and in the Bahamas. It is building and heading for the Gulf. It will effect the Keys so it is time to put tha boats up and secure.

Hurricane Phillipe is East of us right now. We do not like it when they head North. For the normal equatorial trade wind is East. If the normal wind pattern kicks in, this will be heading our way. It is about 1 day out yet and we see the effects already.

Our coordinates are 64 / 18

In my 15 years down here, we have never seen storms hit the 'p;s and r's.....it is an active year.

BE safe everyone. It is coming. Get ready.

goto;

What the Hell, Bruce! We've got the boxing gloves on this time. After Katrina nothing will phase us! (at least cause any more damage... everything south and east of here is busted anyway!) The hatches are battened down... well we had hatches at one time! Honestly we don't know how you do it down there as almost every storm passes your way first. Granted not all are hurricanes yet but a lot are.

Peace,
Clayton

The Florida Keys are battening down for Rita after finally getting cleaned up from Katrina's fly-by. I think Chip and Barb Short are staying in their house in Key Largo. And I think Rick's son Dave and his family have by now taken refuge in our house in Key Largo.

I'll give you a report from Key Largo after the storm passes Tuesday. Wish I were there.

Someone else offered this weather link a while ago. I just wanted to put it back up for those that might not have it. Everything you wish you didn't need to know about, you know.

And today we broke the record set in 1995 as the most active season since at least the 1920's. 20 named storms vs 19 in '95.

And the scary thing is, there is another month or so of the Hurricane season to go (not an expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong)

But we've only had 17 so far (unless I'm missing something):

Arlene
Bret
Cindy
Dennis
Emily
Franklin
Gert
Harvey
Irene
Jose
Katrina
Lee
Maria
Nate
Ophelia
Philippe
Rita

BTW there are names up to :

Stan
Tammy
Vince
Wilma

Rita's skirts barely brushed Key Largo -- maybe 35-40 mph wind. Quite a bit of rain. Very little storm surge (at least in that part of the Keys). I haven't been watching the news, so I don't know if Key West had any damage. Chip says Katrina knocked a whole lot more leaves off the trees than Rita did.

(You're right, Simon, hurricane season isn't over until the end of November.)

One might be the fact that Q is not used.

Sadly Rita is in the Gulf and powering up. Forcast to be a Cat.4. Lets hope it weakens before hitting land.

ps; we are getting rain bands and wind from the "Phillipe' storm, and it is not even close to us or well formed.

What do people think about the cloud formations to the far east of the picture - looks to bme like that could form one big momma of a storm system.

Calling Bruce for an on-the-spot report

The system on the east side is the remnants of Phillppe. No worries there.

Once Wilma comes through, they will start back at A with greek letters, so it will go Wilma, Alfa, Bravo, Charlie (oops) better not make it that far. Didn't we have Charlie last year?
