Crickey!

I couldn't live up here in the great white north. I'm sitting here in a suburb of Boston and its like whitewash outside.

We still got the pools open down south!

Its a mind frame that you get into. And most people who live in the north like the change of seasons. I live in MI along Lake Michigan which acts like a giant heat sink. It will stay comfortable until the beginning of December and then snow until the middle of March. People shovel driveways, go skiing, iceboating, iceskating, ice fishing, hunting and look forward to spring.
I have a heated walkout basement that I can put my boats into to work on. One canoe, a pram and my Hobie 18. Plenty of time to play with the boats and avoid the tube.

Beats rebuilding your house from Hurricanes.

Pooh-Bah, I'm blaming you for bringing it! We don't usually get this for another month. There may be global warming, but the effect in New England is actually for longer winters these days. Back in the mid to late eighties I was sailing and swimming this time of year! Vivid memories of a blind date: took her sailing, didn't know she couldn't swim! She was panic stricken for at least the sail back. She liked shopping for pumpkins at one of the local farms better, but that couldn't make up for the sailing. When the boat started to heel she'd get terrified. We were in the river too, where most of it isn't over her head... Let me know if you want to collect on your pint!

dude, where are you? I am based out of Framingham and if you are close we are around most of the weekend if you are looking to get away from hotels and such. Nothing like a nice kayak through some resevours followed by a pot of homemade stew to get you through a cold fall day.

Chris,

I'm up here in Waltham. I'm here until next Saturday. I tried to find your email address but I couldn't find it.

I found your email under your profile here on the site, I'll shoot you something real quick.

Ha-Ha-Ha

It got up to 70 F. here in Minnesota, today. Drinking beer in the driveway with the neighbors. Thanks for trading weather with us!

It was about 70 here today too, you're missing out Tad. At least you got the website going again. Trey will have to think of something new to complain about now.

Today it was beautiful out. About 60 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. I helped MoMP from Sailing Anarchy move his trimaran out to dry storage in the "country". Got a mini-tour of Massachusetts in the process... really pretty out near the hills this time of year.

Makes up for the snow yesterday. I almost had forgotten about it until I re-read my thread :P

Here in Western New York along Lake Erie, all of our boats have been put away; All the J's and monohulls are out of the water and in storage, with only the most hardy still keeping their boats in the river slips. They have to work fast here to pull the docks out before it gets too cold to want to work in the water.

We're into other outside activities and yes, we'll probably start tinkering with our boats in January between ski days. A lot of us did hull glass work to our boats before we put them away because we can't trust the April weather to be cooperative.

If it means anything, I'm still getting on the CatSailor site because I miss being on the water. But, it's probably good because too much of a good thing can make one lazy and unappreciative. Besides, I'm too young to want to give up on improving my skiing skills!

We had our first snowfall in Ellicottville, a small ski town about sixty miles southwest of Buffalo.

Temperature will be highs in the 70s all week here in NC. I keep a monohull on a lake on the Virginia line where most people leave the boats in the water through the winter and sail all but 1 or 2 months. The lake does not freeze. I bring mine home to do maintenance. My Hobie goes in storage at the end of Oct. I will sail tomorrow in the monohull with forecast temperature of 76 and winds 5 to 10 mph.

The downside is August and sometimes July can be unbearably hot with no wind.

Howard

during the winter, I use virtual skipper 3 to get my sailing fix.
