To ALL,

I hope you do not mind me jumping in here,...it is getting a little 'mean' in the open forum.

Let me share this with you.

I flipped,...tried all the tricks,...couldn't get the boat up,....let the tramp propel the boat to shore ( sand ),...

..by the way, the boat 'steers' like this by positioning oneself on either end of the 'wet' hull,...I had to dodge some local moored fishing boats..

After the hull hit the shore, I proceeded to the mast end, ( still pointing at the wind) to slowly raise the mast while holding on the rigging...

I found a surprizing amount of weight on the mast tip,....looking around for a snagged fishing or anchor line,..I realized the weight holding the mast down was from the water covering the 'square head'! Once the sail broke the surface,..the mast became tremendously 'light'......knowing this,..I would have to say that the 'downhaul on' would allow you to 'spill' water faster....

..what do you think?

Brobru,

Remarkable; and you were sure that all the tension on the leech was released ? I mean were the mainsheet blocks uncleated AND was the line free to run trhough the blocks ? Sometime the mainsheet hangs on something.

Did you also run down you traveller all the way ?

I'm sure you did but I just want to be sure.

But from the describtion you give leaving the downhaul on seems wise.

Anyway Brobru do you know you were the poster that posted the 1000nd post on this F16 forum ? Conrgats ! No you havne't won anything, but the eternal honour is your nevertheless.

And I'm sure we don;t mind you jumping in here, EVEN though you sail a I-17 ! (Joke !)

How much do you weight, Brobru ?

Wouter,

I want to apologise for my island-mate's attitide Wouter,....what can I say,..I guess I'll just have to 'smoke him' in the next race...!

I am 230 dry,...!

It was about a year ago when I did this 'flip',...so I cannot recall the specifics,...only the amazement of the 'water on the sail' as I grabbed the mast,...it was not water in the mast either,...point being,....it matters and I wanted to share it with you all.

Consider me a F16 'wannabe'......or a F16 + 18inches..!

By the way,..all of those who helped me the last year was invaluable,...this is a good forum for me!

Yeah,....#1000,...I will consider it my first 'win' of the season!
