I've got an early 80's Hobiecat 16 that was recently given to me. I've got two questions. The jib sheets are fed through their own blocks that attach to a bell (forget the name, but the thing with the screw that fastens things together, such as a halyard to the sail). It seems to be only one long sheet feeds through both jib cleats and through these blocks. Is there a diagram to show the proper rigging? On other boats, there are two sheets tied at the clew of the jib, one for each jib cleat, and no jib blocks. Couldn't I just remove the blocks and tie the two sheets? Or is there an advantage to the block rigging?

Also, I noticed that there is a stationary swivel cleat for the main, in the center rear of the tramp. And of course there is the traveler. The traveler car is present but I think there should a swivel cleat attached. I didn't even notice this until after I had been sailing for an hour using the fixed cleat.

Please enlighten me!

Thanks

Yes, the Jib Sheet is a continuous line, and Yes, it is much superior to two lines, because when you are on the windward side of the boat, the line is on your side of the boat. These boats are sensitive to your crew going to the other side of the boat to retrieve the jib sheet. It is difficult to be specific to the routing of the line, because there are several different configurations. All of them pass each end of the jib sheet through a block at the clew plate cleat and back to be attached, usually to the traveler car/block.

The stationary swivel cleat on the center of your rear cross bar is for the traveler. Your main blocks attach to the traveler car, and you main sheet and traveler sheet is also one continuous line. feed one end of your line through the staionary cleat, then pass it through the center of the traveler car and back to the eye strap on the back side of you rear cross-bar. The other end of your main sheet feeds through the block system.
