Wish you were here!

"The atached pic was taken just as we finished the first of three races at the Marco Island Spring Regatta. It was the only timewe had the spinnaker up that day. The race legs were only 1.2 miles long and we were really rushed to get the spinnaker up and down.

Hope you like the picture."

Sweet! How many boats showed up? Was there a F24 class racing?

Not many multihulls; 2 F24s, and us. Lots of monohulls.

Marco Island Yacht club is first rate! They do open events twice a year, for charity.

I'm going to contact them in regard to F16s and other beach cats.

If the big cats can come, can trimarans play? Let us know when the next one is and we'll try to make it

This sig would be something witty, but the censors are against that.

I think there was a F27 that dropped out at the last minute, and 2 F24s did compete. Can't imagine why you wouldn't be welcome.

Marco is a little pricey, so it requires some planning.

For this last event, the entry fee included 3 nights dockage in their marina with complimentary use of transient facilities: showers, toilets, laundry, pool, and hot tub. All of which are gorgeous and spotless. There are two bars and a restaurant. At times these may be availablte to members only. When I was there the full buffet was $30 per person, but you could get a great grouper sandwich for $10 in the bar. BTW, the bar is rich dark wood paneling in a tray ceiling.

They were offering a summer membersip for $500, not sure what that included.

This was my third trip there and I expect to attend as long as they will have me.

I think they have a web site if you're willing to do a quick search.

I thought the F24 Florida Fleet had Marco as one of their regattas? I thought they had 5-7 of them show up last year? I'm surprised so few showed up this year. There are so many good regattas on the west coast, with the Sarasota Midwinters, Marco, St. Pete NOOD, etc. you would think they would have a pretty active fleet over there. I wonder why so few show up. Or have all the racers moved up to the new F31-1D? Too much money for me!

There are a couple of different events at Marco, this must not have been the F24 thing. There were more F24s up on Charlotte Harbor a month ago, I don't know why they didn't travel to Marco. They missed a good party though.

Great picture Pete. That sure is a big spin! How was it to hoist and get down? Did you guys pull the dagger boards up also? And how fast did you get going? We had a pretty cold weekend up north. Its going to be in the 70s this weekend, however, so I'm going to try to get on the water. Soon we'll be sailing regularly up here in the Chesapeake.

Best speed was around 18 knots. It was a bear, Ned and I were the only experienced sailors and I had never raised his spinnaker. Plus, I was dying with bronchitis.

If you think it looks big in the picture, you shoulda seen it from out on the tramp!
