We will be moving our entire site to a new and better machine on Monday morning and installing the upgraded version of this Forum.

Such a move rarely comes without a glitch, so we may be off the air at times during that Monday morning period.

The GOOD News is that everything should be running at lightning speed after that. Mary and I tried the new Forum and it has some really great features. Sure, it will be a bit different than you are used to, but we feel you will soon fall in love with the features.

Mary is going to make a sticky post at the top so you will get a better feel immediately on how it works.

Thanks for your patience,
Rick

What time Monday AM, and is that East or west coast (or somewhere in the middle)... I'm assuming you are -5 to the UK.

The posts are on a database. THe more post the bigger the database. The databases can usually range anywhere from 10MB to over 500MB. When moving an entire database to a new server its an extremely delicate task, and trust me, its no walk in the park. HOPEFULLY nothing will be lost.

Yep, I too hope that ricks makes a very good back-up of the old forum. Preferably more then one and test the roll-back before moving the forum.

I remember that about 2 years ago we lost some period of posts as the backup failed to recover all the posts.

Did it happen?

If it did why is the forum still slow?

Since Monday, sometimes it is really quick and then a couple of clicks later it'll take 30 secs or more to bring up the next page

I can't actually see any difference at this end. Does anyone think that it's much better? Am I just experiencing a problem with my own computer accessing Catsailor (a problem that I've always had but assumed it was the site because everyone else was complaining about lack of speed)?

Rick this entire morning the forum has been extremely slow for me. Feels like I am on dial-up internet. I am at working and we have a fat pipe, that is well over six Mbps

Hasn't happened yet. You will know when it has, because the forum will look a little bit different. I think Chad is trying to get it done this afternoon. The delay was because he had to first make a change to our e-mail service.

The server upgrade has been complete. The forum has also been upgraded to the latest version as well. You should notice an increase in performance.
