Chicken Key Distance Race
Saturday, May 27, 2006

This popular distance race is an annual event on the CABB calendar. The race departs the Rickenbacker Causeway and proceeds south to a marker just off Chicken Key. Chicken Key is about 8 nautical miles south of the Rickenbacker. It is near the Cutler Power Plant, the Deering Estate, and Kings Bay. We will use green marker #3 of the Kings Bay Channel for the turning point. From there we will go to green marker 21 near Biscayne Flats, which is near the southern tip of Key Biscayne. After that we will return to our starting point. The total distance is about 20 nautical miles. The crew meeting will be at 10:30 on the beach. Please have your boat rigged and ready to sail before that, so we can get started on time.

If you are planning of attending, go on our forum and let everyone know you are planning on racing so everyone has an idea of who else will be there. This email will be there to reply to. You can get to our forum from the link in my signature block below. Who's coming? If you have not registered before, you will have to do the short registration before you can reply.

You have worked hard all month, you deserve a day of sailing. I hope to see you there. Let's do the Chicken!

2. Congratulations to all the South Florida catamaran sailors who just completed the grueling Tybee 500 race. The local sailors who sailed the race included Kenny Pierce, Jay Sonnenklar, Jared Sonnenklar, Terry Greene, Steve Lohmayer, Jamie Livingston, and Mark Herendeen. Kenny won the race with John Casey on an Inter 20. Jay came in a close second with Steve Lohmayer skippering the second half of the race. Mark Herendeen and Tom Leobold came in a very respectable fourth. Teenager, Jared skippered an Inter 20 with Jamie Livingston crewing for him and they came in fifth out of the 10 boats. Terry Greene and Chris Runge came in 6th out of the fleet. Congratulations to all on a job well done. You can see all the stories, great pictures and video on catsailor.com.

We are going to make an attempt, I need to finishing fixing my rudder and get my crew out of bed. Teenagers don't like mornings.

I will be there with my Hobie 20. My son, Tobin, will be in town and he will be sailing with me. Hey Palmwolfe, I know what you are talking about with the teenagers. I went through years of that.

I am planning on attending with the H16, now that my crew (daughter) is done with 420 racing for the next few months - assuming there is a forecast for at least some wind.

Me and my dad Terry should be out on our new old Inter 20, fresh off the Tybee
