Posts: 2,718 St Petersburg FL | You know Bruce, I had the old style mainsail, now I have the same one you have. I noticed this new mainsail loves to be block to block, even in lighter stuff.
I am considering running less rake.
HMMMM! anyone else got any suggestions? maybe this should merit a new thread?
OH and pictures are SWEET! got any high resolution images, I want to make a new wallpaper for my pc. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

A new thread ? Yes, I think so. Gossip has it over here that the EU guys are all running the masts more straight up. Wouter

I've stood my mast up a bit to get rid of some weather helm. I cannot get my blocks that close (in the pics) anymore. The boat feels well balanced and it hasn't seemed to hurt the pointing ability. I am still tyring to figure it out, though.

I think you have different length stays then the US boats. So in EU-US communications the position of the holes won't do much. The trap measurement is probably the only thing that will allow us to compare the rake of the mast on different boats.

And even by that, we would have to make sure the trap wires are exactly the same length as well. | | | Re: First Pics

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | No you don't Robi. That's why it is a good way of measuring. You take the trap forward to the bridle tang and set the length (add a piece of line if you need to). Now swing the whole thing back to see where it touches the deck at the back of the boat. Voila! you can quickly guage how much rake you have.....

Not really. The measurement methode applied automatically takes care of that. Think about it. Wouter

First trap measurement = hounds to bow tang. Set the trap at that (add some line if you need to) Second trap measurement = First trap measurement moved aft to where it touches the deck. This is hounds to deck aft measurement and is equal to hounds to bow tang at foredeck measurement.
Where the trap is touching the aft deck will vary according to the amount of rake you have. More rake = touch point further aft.
Measuring this way, it doesn't matter whether one boat has longer wires or not. All you're measuring is relative rake.
