Final figures now in from Peters & May:

40ft container Southampton - Singapore

Outbound from Peters & May Yard to Singapore quayside: £1500.00

Insurance in transit: Insured value x £0.035 (roughly £2,000)

Singapore quay to Changi: £320

[color:"red"] Local taxes will be due on import

Changi to Singapore quay: £320

[color:"red"] I assume we reclaim taxes paid at this point

Singapore to Peters & May Yard: £3085

By my reckoning this makes a total of £7225

This is way more than I was hoping it would be and I don't see how we can do it without sponsorship of some sort. With the airfares etc I don't have that sort of money unless we can split it between about 15 boats and I know we're not going to get that many.

Anyone got any other ideas? (apart from what Hans is working on)

Wouldn't the UK or England (or whatever it is called) Yachting Authority have a relationship with a yacht-friendly shipping company? All those Olympic and World Championship sailors are able to get their boats all over this globe. For the fees you pay to them, and the fact it is an international event I am sure some arrangement can be made.

You may have already asked them, I am not sure.

But Peters & May are also sponsoring the 505 worlds (another great boat) in the UK which people from all corners of the globe. The worlds are on right now so approaching them and finding out their contacts could be another avenue.

Hope this info helps. Trying to organise my own boat so I can get to the event but that's another story. Will be there whatever happens.

Cheers
JC

Chaps,

Have you tried P+O Nedlloyd ? I think they do something for the Aruba regatta.

Thanks for that James, but I don't think the RYA would be terribly bothered about helping a non-recognised class. In any case Peters & May are their 'preferred shippers'.

Yeah, thanks Scooby - been there, done that!!

Half the companies never seem to 'get back' to us. The other half don't have any spare capacity, or routes or can't be bothered. This has been a really frustrating and depressing exercise. Those that have been prepared to quote are asking stupid money - the Peters & May price is actually pretty good but it's still more expensive than I'd hoped.

Hi all,

the silence from the organisers on this event has been worrying me.

I have been copied a email from Marcus who had been in recent email contact with David Adams. It states as follows.

Hi Marcus,

Unfortunately we have had to call off the Global F16 Challenge for a number of reasons. Scott McCook will be running a scaled down event instead.

Best regards
David

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but I thought it was important that people know what is going on, because I was still trying to get organised to attend.

Regards Gary.

It would have been better if David had broken the news Gary, but at least we all now know.... I wonder why he didn't let us know?

The scaled down event by Scott will likely be only a weekend aimed at the Singapore guys. Scott is in Borneo at the moment setting up a watersports centre. He'll be tied up with that for quite a while.....

We still need an international event in 2007 - if Hans Klok was to get something organised over 4 or 5 days in Holland in August '07 who'd be interested?

Dear All,

I am very sorry to hear that the Global Challenge in Singapore is cancelled. The whole F16GC board wants to thank David and his complete crew who where trying to organise this major event for the effort they did to get the enormous job done. Thank you guys and girls and maybe we meet you at coming events in the future.
I am sure that every F16 sailor was looking forward to try to get over to Singapore for a good sail.

Again thank you and hope to see you soon at the coming events.

Best regards,

Hans Klok
