Hey everyone,

Just wondering whether 2 can fly a hull on a Hobie 14 turbo--I've heard that w/out the jib, it's basically a 1 man boat. Does the jib make that much difference? I have no Hobie experience (owned a Prindle 18 till recently), but wondered about downsizing to the Turbo 14 for easy single handing. Don't want to lose the ability to have fun w/ a second person on board, however... Oh, I weigh 175 lbs. Crew would be my weight or lighter.

Thanks!

I don't have a turbo 14, but with two people on my 14 it looks like its going to sink. I don't know if you'd want to fly a hull, half the floatation.

I'm boatless.

YES, but it takes alot of wind. The Turbo is a great one man boat and an okay one man and one woman boat or two little men. The 14 is very weight sensitive, with two people you will both be hanging off the back to keep the bow up. I take my girlfriend out all the time. She usually traps out and to get a hull up I need wind above 17mph, and I have to move to the center of the tramp but she will fly a hull.
I love my little 14T but I am finding that I want a bigger boat. I am actually about to buy a Nacra 5.2, so I guess what I am saying is that if you are going to be solo alot, go with the 14, but if you are going to have a friend along you might want to look into a Hobie 16 or a Nacra of some kind. That is my best advice but I am no expert.

Once you go cat you never go back! Nacra 5.2 (Elsies)#1499, running an inter17 spin!
