the state of catamaran sailing in Florida..

This doesnt really give the whole picture of catamaran sailing in Florida.

In order to claim that these results capture the "state of catamaran sailing in Florida" you need to include the non Harken Bouy series races.

True, this is in no way a complete picture of all catamaran sailing in FLA. There are fleets that do events other than the Harken series, and there is also local fleet racing in many parts of the state.

However, traditionally the six Harken Series regattas have been the biggest and most commonly attended (thats one of the reason why they were chosen), and I would argue that the stats related to them give a pretty good overall picture of whats going on.

There are some external circumstances that effected the numbers. I was told by a couple A-Cat sailors last weekend that they had a number of conflicts this year with Harken series regattas, so their participation was lower. Another example is the Eustis regatta that had a lower turnout this year since the F18 NAs were the same weekend.

So again, this is just a general overview.

Wow its hard to believe that they are getting such poor turnouts..except for the tradewinds.. I thought that there were a lot more cats in florida.

Those are neat stats to look at - I think we'll compile similar stuff for our area events and I'll see how far back I can research. It would be a neat survey to detect the pulse of our sport.

Dave,

One other note, the Harken series includes cats that have a fleet of at least 4 boats at a particular event, so the stats do not include open class boats. I think all 6 events had open classes so the total numbers at each event were a little higher.

Great, thanks for blowing my cover.

Wait a minute, did you just volunteer to find the participation stats for all other FLA regattas for the last couple years?

You rock Dave!

So someone can kick me in the nuts for it and tell me how I'm doing it all wrong... that is a very tempting offer.

Where did you get this forcast! Before you even reply I want to go on record as believing your information is collected in totally the wrong way, is not fully representative of the overall national view, and your forcast cannot truly be represented properly unless you ask B. Curry for his advice on the subject.

For the record,

Bob let me borrow a nice set of Gill gloves last weekend, so Im taking back my accusation that he is a witch, and that he should be burned.
