We're still working on the boat decision, but that little detail not withstanding, what all will we need to sail a cat in terms of gear? We don't need to get crazy to start, and won't be racing for a while if at all. What are the essentials? I know we'll need new PFDs that allow for more activity, rash guards and wet suits, but what else?
Does anyone make a replacement mast that acts like a Pez beer autoloader? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
This sounds like us about two years ago....... You have already found THE most valuable tool. This forum. These guys (sorry Mary) are some of the most helpful people you will ever meet.
Here is what I found helpful......
A Checklist of all the steps involved in setting up since I found lots of ways to miss something (only discovered "out there").
Didn't need a catbox or cattrax. Trailered the boat with a minivan.
Windsuit to wear over the wetsuit or bathing suit made it much more comfortable. The windchill factor I hadn't counted on.
A fabricated PVC pole to lift the mast while I stay firmly on the ground while my son cranks the winch to lift the mast.
Good Trapeze harness. So that you can hang from the wire connected to the mast. VERY cool and the most fun you can have in life IMO.
Good luck. Let us know how you like it. ASK QUESTIONS,
Greg
