The fore and aft plus inboard to outboard adjustments on the old Tornado jib leads have evolved.

Fore and AFt adjustments were lost after they fleet decided that raking the stick back almost to the transom to load up the rudders was fast. Th optimal position was decided and loops were sewn into the tramp. So... no more fore aft.

Inboard and outboard loops were installed but it took a real blow 20 to 25+ to move the jib lead position outboard.

Somtimes... this outboard lead was a little further aft then the inboard lead. (look at a taipan 4.9 tramp)

Then the rig changed.
Mast rake is the same and its the same deal... the jib sheeting position is fixed on the front beam... you just stop the traveler car at the proper position. I don't remember the exact measurment. The inboard and outboard positions to depower are not needed... Instead the clew of the sail has several positions which allow you to pull a bit more on the leach or the foot depending on where you attach it. This can twist the leech off for you.

I remember that you are sailing with your kids. There is not much to do once the self tacker is installed which may be a good or bad thing for you. Wonderful for wives/girlfriends and running the chute for a race.

You also loose down wind speed and depth with the high aspect jib. The rig is really optimized for the chute downwind now.


Good luck with your spreader project. You should be able to get some really good sails from the older campaigns that you can shape the mast to and depower when you need it to.
