Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | If we started all over again from scratch and could create the perfect world for beach cats and were limited to, say, five classes of cats, all of which would be sailing one-design (or formula), what should those five classes be? | | | Re: The perfect world for beach cats?

Caleb I love the hobies but they are not the best boats out there. I mean the 16 likes to nose dive towards the bottom, the 17 is really weight sensitive when compared to other 17 foot long boats. The 18 weighs a ton, so why are they the boats that would make a perfect beachcat world. I love them all but there are better boats out there. Look at the Nacra Boats. But on the subject, F14,F16,F18,F20 and A class

Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | Interesting that some people are including the Tornado. That would not have occurred to me if we are trying to start over right now with five classes (either existing or hypothetical) that could absorb all of the existing catamaran sailors -- and attract future sailors.
I'm talking about classes for the masses. So maybe the Tornado, the current Olympic class, should be excluded, since that is definitely not a mass class boat.

I think we need F12, F14, F16, F18 and F20.
The F12 is a small lightweight (<50kg) super simple craft for children up to a combined crew weight of 60kg. So it is mostly sailed single handed. Catch them young and train them rather waiting for the mono hull guys to do it. Over 60kg and you go to F14 which we already know about, same for F16 and F18. Re-write the F20 rules to provide a lighterweigh higher performance craft for the heavier sailor.
Just the way I see it. Regards, Phill
I know that the voices in my head aint real, but they have some pretty good ideas. There is no such thing as a quick fix and I've never had free lunch!

Damn I wish I could have said this anonymously.

If racing was my only reason for sailing and since I already know that I'm NOT the best sailor, why would I compete? Perhaps the sport would not miss me, but I would miss the sport. If I were never going to race, I would still have bought the Blade; light weight, single handed performance -for my needs it is almost perfect. In a perfect beach cat world, maybe we would have the foresight to buy beach front property!
