Is there any interest in making a concerted effort to get the F16 fleets together at a fall regatta? We have the Gulfport Invitational in the Spring, but it would be nice if we had something in the Fall, as well.

Juana's Good Time Regatta (Navarre Beach, FL on Sept 8/9, 2007) may be a good location/format. Distance race on Saturday (32ish miles) and triangles on Sunday. Not a serious race weekend, but plenty of time for socializing and building friendships. More info on the host and sailing venue can be found at www.juanaspagodas.com. Lots of families, my kids spent hours on the volleyball court last year.

Does it conflict with any large Central FL regattas? If so, lets throw out some other options....

Dude, I would so be up for that! Juana's location is a prime sailing area. The only thing I can see being a problem for me is that I will be relocating during that time.

I might be able to swing that ...

... no FL regatta's that weekend and would be the week after the Jax Labor Day Regatta.

Sounds like there maybe some interest. I am open to any location/time. There has traditionally been good wind at this regatta, but still have good air temps. Last year had 10 or so spin boats (ARC22, I20, F18HT, F18).

Are there any other suggestions for timing or location?

Me too!

Todd: I'll be at GYC this Saturday for our club race. http://www.gulfportyachtclub.com/

Drop by and let's get acquainted. Seth Stern is usually there with his Taipan, so you would make three F16s. If Tback would postpone his flooring project. . .!

My boat is already there, mast up, so I'll be glad to give you a hand rigging.

btw- JPOR may be the oldest cat regatta in Florida. I first attended back in the late '70s. Always a good party.

Not a serious race weekend,

WHAT!!!??? ROFLMAO!! Did you really think you could slip that past? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Did you guys see Wouter's suggestion that we petition for a lower handicap? 63.5 I think.

I'm fine with it. Officers should call an internet meeting.

Really it is not that serious. The regatta is mostly about having a good time.

It will not be too much longer until the new numbers are released. I am fairly certain the D-PN will be lower. To what, I do not know. The US Portsmouth committee takes their data very seriously and I doubt they would change the number just because we asked (reference the 1-up vs. 2-up numbers discussion). My thoughts only with no real inside intelligence behind it.

Is Juana's a good place to put an emphais on F16s showing up or do we need an alternate site (no other suggestions thrown out there)? Any Chesapeake F16s interested in making the haul (late summer vacation on the Gulf coast)?

Tom/Pete:

MAN I can't wait till I can move your way. We had a ball at Juana's and great food at the Bakery next door. Just have to bust butt and get the hours in to get certifications to be able to move to Fla. I fell in LOVE with the Pensacola/Navarre/fort Walton area.

Have fun for us.

. . .Is Juana's a good place

It's fine with me. It's about as far as I could travel in a weekend.

Juanas regatta in sept is actually called Juana's Good Time Regatta... it is fun and not very serious. I was unable to attend last year due to work stuff but did go the prior year. It is a good time. Can be a little shallow in spots but nice. I have room at my house for 3-4 people if anyone is interested.

We have CatFest in Charlotte that weekend-It is 7 hours away with lots of friends. I'll tell the skipper and see if he wants to head south instead to be with the F16's. More info would be great. Ie. Can you camp on site, Keep boats on the beach, How far from B'ham etc???

It is a little less than 5 hours from Bham. The drive is easy, 4 lane almost all the way.

There is a huge asphalt parking lot next to the launch site. There were RVs parked there for the race (and a sailboard function going on) last year, perfect for the Olee-mobile. They also have pretty good deals on condos/hotels for race participants. Racing is held in between the barrier island (Santa Rosa Island??) and the mainland = good breeze and slight chop. The barrier island between Navarre and Pcola beach is almost exclusively National Seashore (no buildings, pristine white sand beaches).

Day One of racing takes you all the way down to Pcola Beach bridge and back (for spin boats), so you get to see A LOT of the beach. Day Two is triangles in front of Juana's Pagoda.

'Round The Island has traditionally been the following weekend, so a few out-of-town boats probably skipped this regatta in the past. RTI has been moved to June this year, so there could be a larger turnout (probably 35ish boats last year).

I am open to any location and any weekend. Avoiding the most conflicts will enure a better turnout, so bring up any other suggestions.
