I have a velocitek too. At the moment i have just strapped it to the boom. but i'm in the process of making a mounting bracket to attach it to the spinnaker pole infront of the mast facing aft. you can change the display so that any of the options can be in the big or small screen, or both. one downside, is the buttons suck. I was hoping to use is as my start timer too, but the buttons aren't reliable enough to get the timer right. I bought a ronstan clear start watch and strapped that to the boom which works really well. With the recent price rises and aussie dollar going south I wouldn't buy one now. I reckon i woudl get 2 foretrexs and strap them to the boom.

I glued the Foretrex to the wrist strap with Aquaseal and it didn't let go all season. It's true that you can't allow the glue to add much thickness or the charger won't snap on.

I'm going with one of these. Looks remarkably similar tot he velocitek. now whether to lash, cable tie or tape! maybe all three!!!

Its going to be mounted on the pole behind the bridal and in front of the jib turning block.

from the tacktik website:

Quote
Secure bracket to the spinnaker pole using the preferred choice of velcro, cable ties, duck tape etc.

As a vegetarian I object to the use of animal products. wink

That's very similar to the velocitek one, I just couldn't bring myself to paying over $100 for something that cost me $6.50 to make. It looks like it has the bolt holes in right place which would be handy. Do you know what it is made out of, looks like it might be aluminium.

$75AUD from binks in NSW. If its made of glass I wont be too disappointed. It is a tacktick branded mount.

Let you know in a couple of days aye.

Simon, it is indeed alum.

the position on the pole is good, I often look at the bows to see how the boat is going through the water. this makes it directly in my line of sight.

Hey dazz,

who far forward did you put it? It obviously doesn't snag on the jib then?

I have a little micro tactic on my spi pole. Must admit didn't use it as much as I probably should have done when the wind was up. Gut feeling seemed to play a bigger part of my race management rather than the compass. And in light winds whilst using the compass I would just sit and stare at the numbers in a trance like state missing the shifts completely, I really had my head well and truly stuck IN the box.
I know where I'm going wrong and really should make a conscious effort to use the compass in a more pro-active manner.
Any advise would be welcomed!

The channel part of the mount is about 10 inches long. I have the end of it directly below the bridal. the part the compass sits on is about 3 inches in front of the turning block for for the jib. I have a goodall snuffer with velcro attachment points, one of those goes around the tacktick mount.
