I am reading the description of Jibing, and am not sure whether I am misunderstanding the instructions for the crew, or perhaps there is a contradiction.

On page 12, the book says "the crew must get the jib across to the new side and set it in downwind position immediately."

This seems to contradict the Notes for the Crew on page 14, where it says "As with tacking, the ideal is to keep the telltales flowing on your jib as long as possible through the jibe. As the boat turns downwind, ease your jib out simultaneously until just before the main jibe."

Are these describing two different ways to jibe, or am I missing something that unifies them?
