Very interesting. Why was the 5.8 not pointing well on port?

Also can you please post a tutorial on the GPS action replay software? The docs are not very good.

Dave

John's 5.8 had some troubles...the newly installed trapeze rope-locks (those rectangular plastic things) broke on both the crew & helm positions...after recovering, they really could not trap on at least one tack and more. The boat is rigged with a mid-pole snuffer and John reported he was constantly stuffing the hoop all day...it sits quite low on the 5.8 due to the funky bow bridle foil setup.

Yeup – that sums it up – I had just installed new rope locks on Friday, and as we plowing through the chop on starboard tack both of the rope locks gave out almost at the same time – weird! I ended up slamming against the boat tweaking my knee and then got tea bagged off the stern – not fun for a 50 year old carrying and additional 20 lbs of unwanted ballast. Having one of these fail is normal, having two fail led us to believe we could expect a problem with the port side so we sailed conservatively (crew trapped out using both lines on port tacks) until we hit the back side of Anacapa so that we could rig a safety line to keep us trapped out on the boat should those locks fail on us too.

All in all, we have had two excellent days of racing in Ventura the Rum Run and now the Milt – the Tri-Point is coming up, and this is race made for beachcats.
