I think that you must mean a tramp... the trap is the system that allows you to trapeze off the side of the boat.

I have a black tramp on my Nacra 5.2 and it is nice. I figured it owuld get hot but it never really does.

I am not sure about the 16, but I know on the Hobie 14 you definently need hiking straps.

Once again I am no Hobie 16 expert but in my mind you all should be able to fly a hull but it will take some pretty serious wind.
