Lee,
How ya doing? The new boat is fun but we're still learning the Spin. Just ask Matt how bad I did in the Rocky Point race Down Wind in light air. Up wind I can pass everything except an I20 so far and maybe not Matt.
We went out when it was a little rough at Rocky Point and I stuffed it once because the waves were very steep. I know if its really blowing and we are in big seas that I will not want the spin on board. We will be plenty fast enough and be able to do a normal wild thing if its blowing 15 and not have to worry about the spin pole breaking or causing us a problem.
In low seas its not a problem. The Anacapa race one year was huge and I would never want a spin pole on this boat in that kind of seas because the boat is just to short in steep waves.
Maybe I'll get more confident but your boat is 3 feet longer and very floaty in the front, it really makes a difference.
We will do Anacapa next year for sure but would only carry the spin if the forecast is for 3ft or less seas, over 4 and we will leave the spin at the beach.
Good to hear from you.
Stephen
