Sometimes the most difficult aspect of a project is getting all information required ,-all research , and then understanding and clearly defining the inherant problems and ultimate goals and true intent , in this application , the sport of catamaran racing and rating sailing craft.

-Looking through the first page of printed out rating systems -
In the first 4 letters as listed alphabetically there are 6 to 8 different catamaran design that will produce similar results to the Steeplechase distance race result problems of potentially much faster larger more sail area design catamaran types being rated much slower than similar or lesser design under P-ratings.-This does not occur with designed based rating .

A system based on averaging times of boats ---
A system based on measurement and design of boats---

Neither is perfect ,--both have inherant flaws .

One attempts to correct itself with added design modification ---
One attempts to correct itself with average times as a cross reference from design theory to reallife application .

-Given a choice of imperfect rating systems , the ideal with intended goals to promote the sport is one of compatable design based that serves to improve . --Then combine elements of P-Rating as a percentage correction factor .

The opposite P-rating requires as we see endless discordinated attempts at design based application to correct itself . The uncreative human handicapping base philosophy of P-rating does not serve or improve the ideals of sport.

-Why not just jump ahead to where both types of rating systems are headed to a design base with Prating type correction percentage factor added . Windspeed factors -weights all other bells and whistles can be added as needed.

-There are numerous very brilliant people that sail catamarans ,
I know we can do better , to the benifit of all --

Happy Holidays
