Surely off the wind the technology is relevant. Trying to keep flow attached to the main on a broad reach is the whole trick, and the drag penalty of turbulators is acceptable because of the vector direction of it?
In practical terms, wouldn't some course stitching about a foot or two from the leading edge of a spin. maybe help as a trip?
