And don't forget the fatigue factor, the more laps will favor two up vs. uni spin as the uni skipper is going to get -more tired- doing the sets/take downs, than a crewed boat. When the wind is blowing, all the more-so.
Look, I love racing uni vs. the two up boats, and agaisnt the F18's and I-20's as well. I don't expect to beat them, and I'm happy to be near them. In a perfect world we would have at least 10 of each, on their own starts, mano-a-mano one design racing at it's finest. But this world is never going to be perfect, so we do the best we can. My point is more shorter races vs. fewer longer races. I like the starts, playing the shifts, hauling butt under spinnaker, and a good, close finish. So more starts, and shorter races keep the fleet closer together.
In my observations, all the 3rd lap does is spread out the fleet more. Has anyone ever gone from last to fist on the 3rd lap?
And, on the A cat thing? Nah, I like the spinnaker, but it may be time to get an F18 and good crew, then bitch about the F16's rating... <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
