Thanks Mark, and nice racing also, the Dart was a reality check.

I’m probably not the best person to provide an opinion about bag vs. snuffer as I’m biased. Many people try to “rib” me about my Tiger not having a snuffer. I simply respond, “I would never insult my crew with a snuffer”. :-)

I’m very lucky, as Stephanie and I have been sailing together for years. We’re still learning better ways of setting and dowsing. Compared to the snuffer, there is a steeper learning curve with the bag; the crew needs to have a “can do” attitude.

To get right to the point, we feel that the bag/poll takes more skill and teamwork than the snuffer. We think it’s best to put our time in learning and becoming proficient with the bag, and if we need to move to snuffer, it will be a walk in the park.

I think if you had equal (seasoned) teams, one with snuffer and the other with the bag, I think the difference in speed (up and down) would be small; however I think the bag has a higher risk for problems to occur.

At this point, I’m not ready and I don’t want to spend the money for snuffer, and were having a good time with the bag as every successful deploy and dowse is a minor victory.

Take care and thanks again,
Bob O
