Your 5.8 is larger (tramp space), quicker on all points, and IMHO a better choice than a Getaway. (I always thought the name 'getaway' was fitting)
As far as cruising and wings goes, the H21 sport cruiser would be my choice. 8'6" beam, no telescoping crossbars, and a TheMightyHobie18 mast and sail (I think).
Since you obviously don't know much about the Hobie product line, let me interject. The 21 has its own rig.
As far as the Getaway is concerned... it's a great boat for piling a bunch of people on and recreationally sailing. It's hard to pitchpole, it has several safety features built-in, making it a great boat for sailing with kids. Sure, it's not the fastest thing on the water, but you can load it and drive it up onto a beach, and virtually not worry about damaging the hulls.
And believe it or not, most of the new customers that walk through my doors don't want to go balls to the wall all the time. I can't tell you how many times a fleet member took out someone for a demo sail on their Hobie 16, and they never showed up again because it was 'too fast'. As soon as people would recognize this simple fact, we could probably get more sailors on cats.
I had an early Getaway as a demo boat when I worked at O'Neills and routinely took it out in 25-30 knots and huge swell. It's amazingly controllable in those conditions. I clocked over 16 knots routinely without even trying.
