Thanks for the input. There are some small flat head screws on either side that look like they're in-line with the pivot, but they seem to be made of very soft plastic, and it was clear that my multitool was going to destroy the slot long before they started to turn. I assume these are just plastic caps to stop the dowels falling out?

I'll give it another go this evening with the right sized screwdriver.
