Phil Buck told me the surf was to high to get the boats out. I can't imagine going 35 miles to get your trailer, 35 miles back to Mansfield Cut and 35 miles back to SPI. Then 8 hours home to Austin or Houston.

We watched Ruff Rider sailors going up the ditch about 5 miles from the cut. Chris Miller's Hobie 21 was 200 yards ahead. Mark Hawkins was running third. Tomko was 4th or 5th and must have made up the time tacking out the Cut. That was a sight!

They were all tacking out the cut, so we sailed into the landcut and onto Marker 21. Ate dinner and continued on to JFK bridge after we heard TS Grace was hitting between Corpus and Port O'Connor. Darn hard to stay in the ditch at night. Got to JFK at 6:00am and anchored in 2 feet of water until the sun rose. Put the tri on the trailer and headed for Austin.
