Sounds like you've not threaded the jib 2:1 purchase correctly around the hexaratchet block. The wire line is called the "horse" and has nothing to do with the barberhauler (the line running into the forebeam from a small block around the jib sheet line). The horse cable allows you to place the sheeting (hexarachet) block fore/aft to change the angle the sail is pulled at, tensioning/easing the leech/foot of the sail to suit conditions.
