According to Hobie Cat, they starting marking the transoms in 1973.
Jim's right - the number is sequential, but 16's and 14's were numbered separately.
The 14 I just finished restoring (although not nearly as nicely as yours
) is hull #5010. It was advertised as a '76, but I'm figuring it's probably a '72.
